New York City, USA – June 10, 2017: Outside view of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx

I’m not exactly sure what it is, but I have always wanted to live in New York City for as long as I can remember. It could be because most of my favourite shows are based in New York.

That’s not to say I haven’t thought about living in other American cities; I have wanted to drop everything and move to Las Vegas, which is still a city I would like to live.

Along with loving NYC, I have been a long-time fan of New York Sports. I’m a Giants, Rangers and Yankees fan. The only New York-based side I don’t go for is the Knicks, but that’s another story.

No matter what team you support, it is an excellent time to be a sports fan in the Big Apple. The Giants have been playing well, going 5-1 to start the NFL season, and their only loss was to arch-rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. We couldn’t have asked for a better start for long-suffering Giants fans like myself. I was pretty doubtful of the coach Brian Daboll, but he has made this team resilient.

Jets fans can also be happy with the way their team is playing. They are currently 4-2, losing to the Ravens and the Bengals. This week’s win was all the more impressive; they beat the Packers without Quarterback Zach Wilson throwing a touchdown pass. Even ESPN is saying that they are contenders this season.

The Yankees are a team that, no matter where you live, you know who they are. And that is worldwide. They have won a world series since 2009; fans hope they may end that drought this season. Currently, they are playing the Cleveland Guardians in the American League finals. After being down 2-1, they won game 4 to tie the series 2-2. Games 5 was postponed due to rain.

The Rangers and Islanders have gotten off to pretty decent starts on the Ice hockey rink. The Rangers are 3-1 and will no doubt be looking at improving on the last hockey season, where they made the Eastern Conference finals.

The Islanders have only played the two games so far for a 1-1 record. Let’s hope they have a good season for the sake of their fans.

The NBA kicks off tomorrow, with the Knicks taking on the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday. No doubt Knicks fans will be excited to see their team take to the court, just as long as they do better than last season.

New York’s other basketball side kicks off their 22/23 campaign against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Nets have had some troubles over past seasons, like Kyrie Irving only playing certain games due to his stance on vaccinations or the ill-fated James Harden trade. But this season is a clean slate, and hopefully, they have put the Kevin Durant drama aside. They have Aussie stars Patty Mills and Ben Simmons, the latter being someone who could add something extra to the side if he stays injury free.

I hope that your team, no matter what sport you follow, is making you proud to be a New Yorker at the moment.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
